1948 Lincoln Continental Coupe

Engine 292 C.i. V-12 125 H.P. Three speed manual with Borg Warner overdrive. Three heaters under dash and under each front seat. Vacumn radio antenna and foot control radio. Power windows, push button door latches.

This car has won the Lincoln Trophy at the 2001 National meet of the Lincoln and Continental Owners Club. It is a senior car in that club. In 2002 it won a Senior First with the Classic Car Club of America having won the junior first the previous year. Points awarded were 97+.

The car was stored in a barn in San Antonio for 32 years and had a 1949 V-8 engine installed. It came with a disassembled V-12 as well. Subjected to a bare metal restoration, the originally black car ( which was purchased new by a prominent Doctor in San Antonio) was redone in Pace Car yellow with tan leather upholstery. The color was a convertible color named for the 1946 Indianapolis 500 pace car. All chrome was redone as well.

The car was driven from central Texas to the 2000 Lincoln Nationals in St Louis and awarded a first place. It was drlven in 2001 to the Lincoln Zephyr Nationals in Virginia and awarded a 2nd place there competing against some 14 other post war Continentals. Since relocating to Utah it has participated in two National VMCCA tours as well as numerous tours and shows locally in northern Utah.

It is body # 1175 out of 1200 1948 Continentals built. Introduced in 1940 and produced for the 1941 , 1942, 1946-7 and 1948 years a total of just over 5000 of these cars were built. About half were Cabriolets (convertibles) and half coupes. It has been the only 1948 automobile elgible to compete in the Classic Car Club which covers only very deluxe and hand worked cars from 1925 to 1948.
