1974 Volkswagen Thing Acapulco

Thing Acapulco’s where first used as a resort car for the Las Brisas Hotel in Acapulco. Different from a regular Thing with their two tone paint, striped interior seats, running boards, striped Surrey top with rear rack to keep the luggage from flying out going to and from the hotel. It has been purported that they had Orange and White, Yellow and White, and Blue and White vehicles. In 1974 only, Volkswagen sold their Acapulco version car in the states in Blue and White.

This little Acapulco has had the same owner from 1981 until he passed away and was given to a family member in 2008. It was towed behind their RV which explains the 90k on the odometer but an original interior that looks like a lot lower mile car. Since 2008 it has had the gas tank replaced, carburetor rebuilt, all new brakes, new tires new shocks, alignment, new battery, new exhaust, and a new Surrey top. No rust on the car, brakes are firm, clutch and transmission work perfect, motor runs strong without any excessive smoke. The original accessory plug still in the dash, seat belts, no speaker or radio holes cut, and oil bath air cleaner on the stock motor. It is hard to find a Thing that has not been modified from stock.
